Never saw this band until I was watching a Gene Simmons roast and Steel Panther played an intro for each comedian. I thought they sucked, looked them up, and I am shocked to discover that their music is really good. Unfortunately they are also douche bag imbeciles, so...whatever. They might still appeal to 16-year olds or adults who never outgrew high school.

I think the drummer is Ed Shaughnessey, who later was the Carson show drummer for many years. These cats were the cream of the LA studio scene where they could make good money. They loved playing in those TV bands where they could play some real jazz. I'm pretty sure that the tenor sax soloist here Plas Johnson soloed on the original recording of the Pink Panther theme in 1964.

@ScottySideBurn that's the only way to get some of the notes out, especially the lower ones. You move your jaws up and down to adjust the tuning, the tone, breathiness, and so on. You cannot play the sax with your lips clamped round the mouthpiece, you would never be able to do those glissandos any other way.
